It’s important to remind yourself
That in the absence of someone else’s presence
You are never to question or demeanÂ
The worth of your own existence

I have never believed in the idea of
“falling in love”
Instead, I believe we
“fall into the realization"
That we have been in love
The entire time
She dances under broken skies
Seeking pleasure with the pain
Of holding souls in tainted cries
While they melt into her veins
Her skin dripping with conviction
An infected moral code
Countless sins, on a hopeful whim
To pay a debt that she was owed
With a simple touch
I found myself spinning out of control
Grasping at anything to keep myself steady
And though he knew this all along
He still found himself in a state of confusion
As he watched me inevitably disconnect
From the ground beneath me
Clouded skies turn blue into grey
As promises from you continue to fade
The flowers I grew have wilted away
For a new foundation of all your disdain
Nothing felt better
Than how easy it was
To feel loved by you
Until I learned
It was even easier
For me to feel hated
What do you doÂ
When a love so strong
Starts to take on a form of its own?
Do you let it run free
Like the wind through the trees
Or anchor it down to a home?
Will you tell them that I loved you?
Or neglect to speak the truth?
Give me the brush that you will use
To paint me the one uncouth
Though you drew yourself a tainted heart
Strokes of detail the world should see
I will hide those colors dyed too dark
Your work of art is safe with me
I write the loudest words
When my mind is serene
But sit in quiet rooms
As my thoughts start to scream
I can feel his whisperÂ
behind closed doors.
The harmonic undertonesÂ
pass me by as I wrapÂ
myself in the smooth melody,
wishing to be the song he humsÂ
under his breath inÂ
the midst of darkness.
